Volvo Repair: Blower Fan A/C 1997 S90, floor vents, blower fan

Question
QUESTION: Mark,

My cabin blower fan has stopped working on my 97 s90.  I have checked all fuses.   I suspect this is not the motor, but the resistor.  Where is the resistor located, and how to replace?

Thanks,

Herb

ANSWER:     Herb, do you have Zero speeds or just some? Like high only?

QUESTION: I have zero speeds.

ANSWER:   Herb, try to access the blower motor wiring and jump to see if it's the motor. My memory is that they do not run a conventional resistor, but use a solid state controller.(power stage) to control blower speeds. The power stages do fail though. They are buried below the climate control head and down below. Just access the blower motor wires and jumper. If she runs, dig deeper. If not, replace the motor. Was it making any noises on high before it quit? Especially going around hard corners?

QUESTION: No noises before it quit.  It was working fine with one exception.  Months before the blower quit, upon quick  acceleration of the vehicle, airflow would be re-directed from the upper (head-level) vents to the lower floor vents.  This is annoying in hot weather, and avoidable if you don't accelerate quickly.  I understand that it is a known issue with one of the servos that control air-flow.  I had not bothered to fix it in that it was only a nuisance.  If I'm going to dig deep, I've also got to locate this servo, but my first priority is the blower fan.

I travel.  When I return home, I'll let you know about the motor test.

Thanks!

Answer
If you can, go to Ramac.com. The fix for this is posted by me for vent switching. It's probably under 740 Turbo, but it's the same issue. Cheap and easy if you know what you are doing? If after viewing that you still have questions, e-mail me.
