Volvo Repair: 740 turbo 1990 steering issue, interference engine, electrical issues

Question
Hi Roger:

Today while accelerating up a hill, my 1990 740 turbo intercooler wagon (137,000 miles) lurched a bit, the tachometer bounced around, all indicator lights went on, and the steering was difficult to control. I was able to safely park the car on a side street but if I tried to start it again, all the indicator lights turned on and the tachometer went crazy.  Any thoughts as to what happened and what the damage might be?

Thanks in advance, I appreciate your help with previous questions. Thanks!

Answer
Morgan, No damage, just sounds like the car died suddenly.  The timing belt may have broken but its not a interference engine so a new belt and then the car will run again.  It may however be electrical issues such as an impulse sensor or engine speed sensor.  This one needs to go to a Volvo shop to get checked out.  Roger
