Volvo Repair: S40 Headlight flickering Driver side, proper diagnosis, headlight assemblies

Question
Hi  any clues as to why the driver side headlight is intermittantly flickering on and off?
Very random and usually turning the switch off then on again it will light back up.

Answer
Well for S-40's there have been problems with the connectors inside the headlight assemblies.  They have the tendency to dry rot over the years and then when you go to reconnect them, they fall apart. Pull the cover off the back of the headlamp assembly and look at the black connector, make sure it isn't damaged and that the electrical terminals are attached to the bulb good.  If not then you may need a new headlamp.  If there is nothing wrong with the bulb or inside the headlamp assembly then you have some sort of intermittent wiring issue that will require a hands on evaluation for proper diagnosis.
