Volvo Repair: 1993 volvo 240 door chime and ignition, 1993 volvo 240, volvo 240

Question
I have a 1993 Volvo 240 station wagon.  Recently, I went away for a week and when I came back it wouldn't start.  I figured the usual, a door light or dome light had been left on, so I jumped it and got it back started again.  However, now whenever the key is put in the ignition the door chime rings continually, regardless if the driver's side door is closed or open.  The car does start again after once turned off, but if left off for a while (overnight, etc.) the battery drains, and it needs to be jumped again.  Also, everytime the car is turned off (even when it starts right up) when it's started again it acts like the battery died, i.e. the radio code must be re-entered, though after the code is entered, the radio appears to work but no sound is made.  The power locks do not work now, as well.

I have a battery charger, and it appears to say the battery is charged, so I wondered where the problem is coming from.  Could it be the door chime's relay or a fuse?  Perhaps, the alternator, or just the battery?

Thanks.

Answer
Derek, check the fuses first.  Sounds like the one for the chime is blown.  That would be fuse number 8.  If they are corroded, you might want to just clean and replace all of them.  There may be a draw in the system and that is something that I would have to check or have your Volvo shop check it.  Roger
