Volvo Repair: different sounds and jerks, volvos, atf

Question
Hello,
I have a 1999 C70 coupe' 2.5 automatic (AW4)(non turbo)with 98,000 miles. I have a couple of questions if you have the time.  Firstly, when I put the transmission in gear, from park for instance, I get a quick sharp squeak, like a break squeak.  What could it be? are there internal breaks in the tranny and can they be replaced or should I just live with it.  Secondly, when driving the car it changes gear fine but I have noticed when I stop at a light I get two jerks as the car sorts out the gears and sometimes it drops into gear hard when I'm ready to pull away. I guess I'm hoping it's sensors and not a new transmission I need but I'm prepared for the worse.

Thanks for the help in advance.

Carl

Answer
Carl, Pretty much all the newer Volvos have that little jerky feeling going on.  Even the brand new ones off the lot do it.  Check your fluid and if its nasty, have it flushed and if yours takes the special ATF then definately use it.  Do not put regular ATF back in.  The trans will fail.  Roger
