Volvo Repair: MAP Sensor, v70 xc, volvo dealer

Question
I have a '98 V70 XC. About 4 months ago the "Check Engine" light came on. This had no apparent affect on the running of the car. I contacted our Volvo dealer who explained that it could be a number of things and he would take a look at the next service (210,000km). Now the motor will suddenly loose power and stall during normal driving, usually first occuring under mild acceleration. Once this occurs it is difficult to start. It may take several minutes of cranking to start the motor to be able to drive off. I took it to another Volvo mechanic who diagnosed it as an O2 sensor. He replaced the oxygen sensor and it still occurs. I returned to my original Volvo dealer today with the same problem, he spent the day looking at the electrics, cleaning terminals and found a loose power conncetion to one of the computers. He said that there were numerous error codes all of which he cleared. He suggested that the next step would be to replace the map sensor. Is it likely that the map sensor could cause this type of condition ? The "check engine" light still keeps comming on and staying on.

Thanks in advance

Answer
Well yours sounds like a difficult problem.  I haven;t ever had to replace a map sensor on that car but I do know that it can cause that kind of problem.  A MAF will also give the same kind of error codes.  There are 2 map sennsors on that car.  An actual MAP and a MAP sensor used to messure boost pressure.  With the computer issues you seem to have its too hard to say whether his diagnosis is correct.  If I had more technical information (exactly what DTC's you had)  I could be more specific.  O2 sensors generally do not give any driveability issues, just emission issues (hence the check engine light).
