Volvo Repair: Start problem 2002 v70 T5, immobilizer system, v70 t5

Question
I have a 2002 V70 t5. It has 67k on it with no problems. Today I stopped at a store and tried to crank the car and it did nothing. All power was to the dash and radio, there was a message that stated "start disabled". I waited about ten minutes and tried again, it fired but took 3 long tries. I drove home 5 miles and shut it off and tried to start it again, it would not. Once again I waited and it fired with no problems. Thank you for your time.

Answer
Start disabled is the message you get when the immobilizer prevents starting because it did not recognize the transponder in the key.  Try a different key and see if it is still having the problem.  If there is some other problem in the immobilizer system, only a volvo dealer will be able to properly diagnose that system because no conventional scanner will read the immobilizer.  It should be fairly easy for a volvo tech to diagnose but you can't do it yourself.
