Volvo Repair: RELAY SWITCH, volvo 740 gle, fuel pump relay switch

SOME MECHANICAL SKILLS.I HAVE A 1990 VOLVO 740 GLE 16 VALVE.RECENTLY, MY FUEL PUMP RELAY SWITCH OR HARNESS WAS NOT MAINTAINING A CURRENT.THE ONLY WAY I CAN GET THE CAR TO RUN IS BY BYPASSING THE RELAY AND CONNECTING THE GR/R AND RED WIRES.DO U HAVE ANY IDEAS?VERY MUCH APPRECIATED

         You clever person,figuring out that you can get it to go..by rewiring it...if you know for sure that the fuel ppump relay is good...and they do fail ,you might really consider taking car to your friendly Volvo service dept. and get a evaluation via their code/system anylizer and you can stop guessing what is needed...of course you'll put wiring back to orig. cond....this could save you mucho time and money...by not buying the wrong part...even if you go the cheaper junk yard parts...you could spend $100's trying to fix it...these systems are complex and I get lost and seek help...thru the use of a Volvo service dept. advice.
           So, be smart and go to dealer for a evaluation.
