Volvo Repair: ETMs in 2002 Volvo S60, usa goverment, meredith carter

Question
I am currently interested in buying a 2002 Volvo S60.  Yesterday, I test drove one and it stalled on us as we were returning to the dealership.  When I got home, I did some research and learned about the faulty ETMs in 1999-2002 Volvo models, and the class-action lawsuit filed against Volvo because of these faulty throttles, which causes the car to stall and die like mine did.

My question is, if a mechanic were to replace the throttle, not repair it, could a 2003-2006 throttle be substituted for the 2002 throttle?  Or, would a 2002 throttle have to be used, which would subject me to countless stalls and service visits?

Thanks,

Meredith Carter

Answer
no you cant use newer style etm on older models they are differnet about the lawsuit that is done now volvo has reapir
for the etm new software  and you have 10 years or 200k warranty extended on etm if it fails for any reson  so dont worry .software's take care of those problems stalling and many other complaints  it is  just software problem it was  very hard to change software until usa goverment aproves  it so we had many problems in past but not anymore  .best choise if you looking to buy 5 cylinder turbo any model and buy volvo extended warranty and you will not have any problems if you come to chicago i can help you get better deal at my dealer on the new purchase of your volvo .and remember you are buying one of the safest car on market trust me on that volvo for life .good luck
