Volvo Repair: Steering Wheel Electronics, volvo specialists, high beams

Question
2000 S80 - I have suddenly lost: both directionals signals, high beams, intermittant wiper control, ability to change radio volume / channel, computer information (i.e. how many miles left, instant mpg etc.). All of these seem to be related to the steering wheel/column.  Is there some electronics in there?  Can I change them?

Answer
The common failure point for all those problems is the steering wheel module (located right behind the clock spring).  Unfortunantly for you, even if you changed it yourself you couldn't program it to work without visiting a dealer.  I would recommend you take it to the dealer (or volvo specialists) to have it repaired.  They can also confirm my diagnosis by hooking up the car to the computer and reading what diagnostic codes it has stored.  If the module has failed it will set a code stating: internal fault.
