Volvo Repair: 00 Volvo S80 Rear view mirror, volvo s80 t6, 2000 volvo s80 t6

2000 Volvo S80 T6. 101,000 miles on vehicle.
 I have better than average technical knowledge of vehicles.
Situation:
My S80 has a rear view mirror that has an auto dim function on it.  It has suddenly developed what looks like a bubble that covers the top of the mirror and the auto dim funtion has failed to work.  It reminds me of when you break a calculator screen or any LCD screen and the fluid runs between the thin glass layers.
Question:
my question is what would cause this malfuntion.  is it reverable or fixable?
the car was parked out side in 90 degree weather and got hot inside but it was not the first time this weather was encounter by the vehicle.

Also, I've searched the internet over and haven't been able to find a replacement mirror.  can i only get one throught a dearlership?

Hi Jonathan,
           I dont have lots of experience with your mirror problem...call your Volvo service dept.and in a nice voice ask them...get to the point..quickly...dont waste their time...they'll help you..if you ask right.
