Volvo Repair: 2000 Volvo XC70 AWD external temp. sens, volvo xc70, gauge readings

Bilbo:  The external temperature that registers on my dash computer is way high.  The value fluctuates, but is not accurate.  First of all, where is the sensor located so I may see if it is disconnected or dirty, etc?  Secondly, please advise if you have seen this problem before. (I do have some technical skills and the car has 102,000 miles.) thanks, LC

Hello Lance,
          I'm unsure where the temp.sensor is located.I think you might want to look at the thermostat.This regulates water flow in cooling the engine.This car cause irratic temp.gauge readings.I doubt the your temp.sending unit has failed...although they do fail,rarely.
