Volvo Repair: OD light constantly on, 1994 volvo 940, fuse panel

I have a 1994 Volvo 940, for the past couple of days the OD light comes on at random and doesn't go off. The tranny also shifts to the passing gear, and after repeatedly pressing the button on the shift lever, the lights stays on, and the tranny stays in the passing gear. Any suggestions would be greatly apprenciated and is there a possibility of damaging the tranny?

more than likely it is a bad overdrive relay.

the overdrive relay is located on the fuse panel behind the ashtray.remove the ashtray and then remove trim around lighter socket then you will see 2 screws remove the screws and the storage area will come out the relay is white and about 1x1x3 inch.it will be towards the passenger side of the panel.
