Volvo Repair: wiper diagram, haynes manual, center vents

Question
I have a 92 240 wagon, and have started some self repair and tinkering lately. My windshield wipers just quit working one day but i can still hear the motor. I removed the glove box and sound panel  - the arm is attached to the motor and moves, but the round "thingie" that was connected to the arm had come off. I can feel some type of wire/cable as well, but I don't know how it goes back together. My haynes manual does not go into detail about this. If you could help that would be great! Thanks

Answer
Are you ready? This may take you some time as a first time doing it. The 'thingy' is the wiper pivot. There are two of these, one for right and one for left. I'm guessing the right side fell off. More than likely you'll have to replace it. I've never tried repairing it because of amount of work invloved. The right pivot will have two tracks, one for right and the other for left, Both tracks have a spiral on it. The cable loops around this track and exits thru the end of the arm which rides on top of it. The cable can but should only go on one way. If installed incorrectly, the assembly will bind and make grinding noise. Need to look at it and follow path of cable. All of this is done in car. Recommend also removing center vents, so you get a better view and easier access. Hardest part is getting everything aligned and then using a small screwdriver and 7mm wrench (or 8mm ) to tighten the cable. Can't do it too tight (will make noise) or too loose (will fall off).
