Volvo Repair: running hot/ starting problems, flash flash flash, example 121

Question
My '93 Volvo 240 had been struggling to start after sitting for several days at a time last winter (I live in NYC so I would only drive it maybe once a week). I thought it was the cold weather but the problem continued into the summer. The mechanics at the Subaru dealer where I have it serviced recently added a fuel injector cleanser that they thought would solve the problem, but since then the engine has been running a little hotter than normal--not in the pink but at about 3/4 temperature. When I asked them about it they said that this sometimes happened due to the additive but that once it ran through one tank of gas, the temperature would return to normal. They also checked everything out and couldn't find any other possible reasons. However, I've now run through a tank of gas and the Volvo struggled to start again today and is still running a little hot. What do you think?

Also, perhaps you know of a trustworthy, gifted Volvo mechanic in Brooklyn, NY? Thanks, Daniel.

Answer
the running hot could be the outside of the radiator is clogged with dirt and bugs.I would pressure wash the outside of the radiator.the starting could be many things I would try checking diagnostic trouble codes first below is how to do so.sorry I do not know anyone in that area.

in the engine bay on the drivers side near the strut tower there is a small black box with a wire attached to it.place the wire in the terminal marked 2.turn ignition key on (not started)press the small button for 1 second and the code will be displayed as a series of flashes.a red led displays the codes.the code will be three digits.small pause in between flashes for a single number long pause between flashes for the next number.example 121 will be flash.....flash..flash.....flash.repeat three times or until first code repeats itself.to erase the code after all codes have been checked hold the button for a good 5 seconds then release the light should light steady, then press for another 5seconds.this will erase the codes.  email me the codes and i will tell you what they are..socket 2is the fuel system 6 is ignition.
