Volvo Repair: 1993 Volvo 240 Oil Light, oil pressure switch, 1993 volvo 240

My '93 Volvo 240 (83,000 miles) oil light comes on when I start the engine and stays on until I press the accelerator.  The cars seems to be idling at a very low RPM, almost stalling out at idle.  When I am driving the light stays off, and it may come on again when I stop.  Can you help me fix this problem?  Thanks,

Low mileage for oil pressure problems unless the vehicle was not maintained and serviced regularly.
Is there enough oil in engine? And is the oil clean? Changed recently?
Check wire to oil pressure switch and make sure insulation is good. If so, remove switch and install pressure gauge to check pressure. If pressure too low, needs removal of oilpan to remove and replace pump.
