Volvo Repair: fuel control unit, curse word, fuel control

Question
Hi Phil. Just got some more bad news from volvo. After spending $900 yesterday The check engine lite came back on. Was on when it went in. Code say fuel control unit. Guy says $900 for part. Need some advice especially where else to get one.The $900 was for speed control unit [I think] in the tranny, The arrow came on the dashboard and the sensor for the engine or water temp along with a tranny flush and a 65.000 mile service.I would like to know if you think just cleaning the fuel control unit , like the guy did, could ever work. I think he may have just said that to get us to fix the other things knowing we would be back soon for the fcu[not a curse word] and thinking we would not spring for $2,000 for all the work. Please advise on this. Like if there is somewhere other than a junk yard to get athe part used. This is a 1995 960 not turbo 4 dr  six cylinder and has cost us at least $12,ooo after it went off warrantee. Every time we turn around it is something else. I hope this is enough. Thanks

Answer
Need to know the code number to determine what the problem is. This code says what circuit is affected, not neccessarily the part itself. When he says fuel control unit cleaning, this is the first I've heard of. Either it works or doesn't and then it gets replaced.

Not sure what you mean about dash arrow, trans flush, temp,
etc. Please clarify.

Besides what kind of sypmtom are you having?
