Volvo Repair: O2 sensor, front (1996 855T5 90k), scan tool, test one

Question
I have read that you can bring these sensors back to life with a careful wash in carb cleaner and a gentle blow to clear out. I am doing this at present, what is the best way to test one of these without having to go to my dealer and have the codes read, can i use a multi meter or some thing to get an indication that it is not completley dead and then reset ECU by pulling battery for a while. thanks for your time and help

the front O2 sensor voltage should fluctuate.it will swing from high to low.the rear will maintain a steady number about .6 volts.I am not sure which wire you would need to check I would have to look at a wiring diagram which I do not have at home.we usually use a scan tool to monitor the sensors function.
