Volvo Repair: Volvo 940 Ride Height, volvo 940 gl, multi link suspension

Question
Hi Regis,

I see you must have been busy, but do you have a source for the information I am seeking?  You had said you would check at your work last Monday.

Regards,

David

Hi Regis,

I have a 1991 Volvo 940 GL sedan and am interested in verifying that its ride height on the road is correct.  It seems that the rear of my car is slightly lower than the front, when measuring from the ground to the top of the sill below the doors.  Most other cars seem to be higher at the rear, that is, slightly nose down.  I am told that the ride height is specified as the measurement from the bottom of the wheel rim to the top of the wheel arch, but have not been able to find what the correct measurements for my car should be.  My car has 15" steel rims.  I have just fitted low mileage springs from a wrecked 940 to the rear but it made little difference.  Can you please tell me what ride height is specified for both the front and the rear?

Regards,

David

I will have to check that at work on monday.

Answer
I have not been able to find a specification for ride height in either our computer system of in the manuals.the only thing I can find is  max ride height difference for nivomat shocks.if the car has a multi link suspension with nivomat shocks they may sag at rest and after driving about 2-3 miles should come up and ride normal.if it does have nivomats usually the shock and springs are bad.the difference from side to side if rear shocks are nivomat is 15mm.nivomat shocks will be large shocks with a rubber boot on them.
