Volvo Repair: 1995 volvo 940, brake light switch, volvo repair

Question
My brake lights quit working.  I took it to my local mechanic (not a volvo repair shop) and they can't figure it out.  All three brake lights are out.  I tried replacing the bulbs but that didn't work.  The failed bulb indicator on the dash flickers every once in a while.

most common is a bad brake light switch especially if all 3 are out. I would also check the fuses.there could be a seperate problem with the bulb failure sensor which conrols the 2 brake lights on the taillights and another problem with the 3rd brake light whch has its own power right from the brake switch i WOULD FIND A BETTER MECHANIC FAMILIAR WITH VOLVOS.
