Volvo Repair: volvo suspension, sway bar link, ball joints

my '93 850 glt has thumping noise when i go over even the smallest bump. sometimes it sounds like it's coming from the front, sometimes the back. i'm not sure where it's coming from. someone told me it is a strut, someone else said it is a ball joint, please help...

it could be either but the most common things I have seen are the upper strut mounting bushing break or the sway bar link rods wear out and make noise .I have seen just a couple ball joints go bad and not many struts.it should be looked at for a proper diagnosis.
