Volvo Repair: repair record, volvo xc 90, 2004 volvo xc 90

I am interested in purchasing a 2004 Volvo XC 90--I have my heart set on this vehicle but one of my husband's friends is trying to talk him out of buying a volvo!  He tells us that the repair records of Volvo's are horrible.  My husband is afraid to buy a car that may spend more time in the shop than in my garage.  Any words of wisdom?

2004 xc90. no issues about buying one, i would let my mom drive one if i could afford one for her.
be weary of general unfounded and unsubstantiated rumors. Consumer reports gives it a low reliability rating, i do not feel that to be true, but i was not asked. further more, you buy a volvo largely for SAFETY. and unfounded safety factor, i could go on endlessly on how volvo has taken the SUV market to the next level. active on board Yaw, and pitch roll sensors to prevent roll overs, does a lexus have all that no! automatic torque reduction in oversteer conditions, unprecedented number of airbags. etc etc. volvo is a SAFETY utility vehicle.....or you could drive a sport utility vehicle...you choose
