Buick/Olds: 97 buick intake manifold gasket leaks, gasket leaks, intake manifold gasket

Question
I understand 3.8 v6 Buick LeSabre's have a problem with intake manifold gasket leaking and allowing antifreeze into the oil.

My question:is there a real fix for this or is it just a matter of replacing the gasket (and manifold if warped) and waiting for the problem to start over again hoping it will be a long time in coming?

Thanks,......larry

Answer
Oh Larry, if I had a dime for everytime I had to answer this one...I'm afraid it's the latter of your question. There really isn't a way to detour the problem. Unless you use a reputable dealer or garage to do it, and a good quality gasket, that will ward off the problems for a bit longer. Also, if you feel the need, I have at times set the cooling fans on some of these cars to come on sooner, therefore making the car run at a bit cooler temperature. This does help dramatically, but some garages won't do it because it goes against the cars warranty. But if yours is a '97, you probably don't have warranty left, so I'd say go for it.
