i have a 94 buick lesabre w/a 3800 motor..there's fuel going to the fuel rail and also fire..it only starts if i put my foot on the gas pedal and pump it a few times..finally when it cranks it kills..or if it cranks and i give it gas, it chokes..doesn't stay on for long and idles very rough.
Answer -
Your going to need to have the fuel system tested for adequate fule PRESSURE and fuel VOLUME FIRST.

Possible faults are:

1. fuel pump.

2. Fuel rail.

3. fuel pressure regulator.

Without performing the FUEL pressure and volume tests There is no way for me to give you an accurate PART FAULT.

how do i test for pressure and/or volume?

Answer
You will need to install a FUEL PUMP PRESSURE gage in the fuel supply line from the fuel tank to the fuel rail and when you turn ON the ignition switch to the ON position ONLY, The gage should read 41 to 47 lbs of pressure.

START the engine and the fuel pressure should STAY within the above said pressure range.

If it does NOT and starts to drop off, This would most likely indicate a faulty fuel pump in 90% of all cases such as this.

Let me know what you find.
