Buick/Olds: 1994 Buick LeSabre 3.8, buick lesabre, coil pack

Question
My wife has a 1994 Buick LeSabre which will lose fire at times.  It may do this while she is driving down the freeway or it may do it when she parks and attempts to leave again.  The car will start to miss and then it loses fire.  It will usually regain fire after a few minutes. This has got to be a big problem as she travels the freeway to and from work each day.  Any advice you can offer will be greatly appreciated.

Answer
This sounds to me to most likely be one or more bad coil packs. your car will have 3 of them and a control module to run them. The coil packs are inexpensive for a 3.8, but the module is pricey, but you probably won't need one. I'd have the car tested for spark on each coil pack.

You can find the coil packs on the top of the engine towards the back (towards the windshield). They are the 3 box-like things that all your plug wires plug into. They are likely the cause of your trouble.

However, you may simply want to change your plugs and wires first, since it's quite cheap and any car can use a tune up anyway. It just may be your plugs and wires, and that would be great.

Let me know if you need more info.
