Buick/Olds: Steering noise, oldsmobile alero, 2001 oldsmobile alero

Question
My daughter recently purchased a 2001 Oldsmobile Alero. The car seems to be in excellent shape. The one problem she has notices right away is that the steering has a "knocking" noise when she makes sharp turns. This vehicle is inspected until July of 2006, so I'm wondering if you know what this problem could be and if it's serious enough to have repaired before next year's inspection. Thanks in advance for your help.

Answer
Good day Paul,

The knocking coming from the car when you turn the steering wheel could be one of a couple of things.  It sounds a lot like a Tie Rod or a PVC joint or something like that.  I am not an expert of steering columns, but I've have enough problems that I know what's going on.  It could finally be your brakes and the caliper knocking.  Do your brakes need changing?
