Buick/Olds: ets off, powertrain control module pcm, obd ii scan tool

Hi Harold pete tried to help me on this the other day. I replaced the battery& alternator on my 1997 buickskylark after that I got the check engine light that showed ETS off. I tried what pete said to do  take off the pos. cable but that dident work. Maby I dident leave it off long enough? And could you please tell me what ETS. is? Thank you norvel cooper

ETS stands for Electronic Traction System. It is the traction control part of the ABS(antilock brake system).
You have a code stored in either the powertrain control module(PCM) or the ABS module. When the code set, the ETS was automaticaly turned off. You cant clear codes on a 1997 car by disconnecting the battery. You have to use an OBD II scan tool. But before the codes are cleared, you need to find out what they are and if there is a problem that needs to be repaired.
