Buick/Olds: 1997 buick lesabre, wire failures, platinum plugs

Question
I have a '97 Buick LeSabre with 103,000 miles on it. A few weeks ago I began to notice that after reaching steady cruising speed (anywhere from 45 to 65 mph), the car begins one-second surges while climbing hills or, if slightly accelerating, on a level surface. This doesn't occur during moderate acceleration or while in the lower gears. Does this sound like a transmission problem? this also only occurs after the car warms up, never when engine is cold.

Answer
It sounds more like a secondary ignition problem. Check the plugs and wires. The platinum plugs should be replaced at 100k miles and also I have seen alot of plug wire failures at the same mileage. Also check the coils for corrosion on the tips.

Sorry about the long wait for an answer, but I did answer your question a few days ago and then my cumputer locked up, so it must not have gotten sent.
