Cadillac: 1996 cadillac seville sts, cadillac seville sts, refrigerant lines

Question
QUESTION: My climate control indicates that the system is working in auto and manual and the fan only blows out hot air. When I adjust the temperature the fan makes the correct adjusted speed but still no cold air can anybody help on this one?

ANSWER: Is the compressor engaging ?.

QUESTION: I do notbelieve so because I do not hear the clicking of the compressor coming on or shutting off. I also checked the A/C fuse and it was ok. I thought the refrigerant might be low but you usually get a "low refrigerent" message that will not even let the system come on. About 3 months ago I had the dealer run a diagnostic on the system and they said it was ok. The evaporator and refrigerant lines remian hot and I do not see any condesation on the drive way.
ANSWER: Check the computer for CODES.

1. Ignition switch ON. Engine OFF.

2. Simultaneously push and hold the OFF and WARMER buttons on the climate control panel for 3 seconds and release them.

3. See if you get codes such as AC1347 or AC1348 or some other LETTER/NUMBER combination display on the fuel data display along with HISTORY or CURRENT with each code or codes that display.

4. After the code or codes display you will see PCM?

5. Turn ignition OFF.

QUESTION: I found the "off" button but what are you reffering to on the "warmer" button????
ANSWER: ^ = warmer. v = colder.

QUESTION: Ok I found it and tried 3 different times and did not receive any codes or letters just a blank display. I am assuming that I am doing this correctly. Any other ideas?
ANSWER: Are you holding the OFF and WARMER buttons for THREE SECONDS and then releasing them ?. The codes will display on the fuel data panel.

Do you have a digital speedometer or an analo (needle style) speedometer ?.

QUESTION: My speedo has a needle. I was holding the off button on the climate control panel and the warmer button on the steering wheel towards the warmwer side and I made sure that the data panel was reading blank instead of mpg, volts, range, etc. Should I hold the temp button towrds cold instead?
ANSWER: Since you have an ANALOG speedometer, We need to change step #2 to read:

2. Simultaneously push and hold the OFF and PASSENGER WARMER buttons on the climate control panel for 3 seconds and release them.

QUESTION: Okay,
Third time is a charm the only AC codes that came up we AC1312, AC1314, and AC1348. It ran through a diagnostic cycle and running what I thought was a lot of codes and letters and then when it was finished it showed PCM? Where do we go from here?

Answer
AC1312 = AC high side temp sensor has an open circuit.

AC1314 = Evaporator inlet temp sensor has an open circuit.

AC1348 = Very low AC refrigerant condition.

Try addind about 1/2 can of freon to the system and see if the compressor engages. If NOT, You will need to perform some diagnostic tests on the above codes. I can e-mail you the pictures and directives on how to fix the codes, But FIRST you need to CLEAR (ERASE) the codes from the computer and see which codes return as CURRENT or HISTORY codes which should display just after each code.

To clear the codes:

1. Re-enetr diagnostics like you did before and when you see PCM?

2. Push and release the LO button and you will see IPC?.

3. Push and release the LO button and you will see ACM?.

4. Push and release the HI button and you will see ACM CODES?

5. Push and release the LO button and you will see ACM CLEAR CODES?

6. Push and release the HI button and you will see ACM CODES CLEAR.

7. Turn OFF ignition key and wait 2 minutes and re-enter diagnostics like I told you in the previous e-mail and let me know what codes appear and if they are CURRENT or HISTORY.
