Cadillac: engine cuts out, pressure gage, obd codes

Question
My 1989 De Ville cuts out after 1/2 hour of driving. I have checked voltages from TBI and vehicle will restart after about 10-20 minutes (cool down?). I can turn engine until battery drains in between, but will not restart. Friend says may be distributor component malfunction, charging system and OBD codes do not display fault.

Answer
The first thing I would do is install an oil pressure gage to the engine and tape it to the outside of the windshield to see if the fuel pressure starts to drop right before the engine quits. this would verify an intermittent faulty fuel pump.

You can also, If you have a helper, Have him listen at the gas tank after the engine quits and then turn the ignition to the ON position, Do NOT try and start the car, As soon as you turn ON the ignition to the ON position your helper should be able to hear the fuel pump in the gas tank run for 2 seconds and then stop. If the pump does NOT run for the 2 seconds, replace the fuel pump in the fuel tank.

Another possibility is a heat sensitive ignition module. When the car stops, immediately check for spark to the spark plugs.
