Cadillac: electrical bs, electronic climate control, fleetwood brougham

hello, i have an 84' fleetwood brougham. recently I noticed a clicking noise coming from behind the glove box. In removing the box I found that the noise was this black box to the left with a white arm on top that was attached to a small arm that looks like it would open and close a small door when you change the air temp. The motor no longer engages the arm. I cant find any where in books what that horrible little thing is. would you know by chance? oh yeah, when it was clicking it would flash my thermo readout violently. thank you for your time.

It is called an ELECTRONIC CLIMATE CONTROL PROGRAMMER and requires a step by step procedure to adjust the new one which is AFTER you install the new one set the AC/Heat controls to FULL HEAT and wait 3 minutes for the plastic arm on the programmer to come towards you and wait the 3 minutes before you pull the threaded metal rod all the way towards you and snap it in the plastic retainer.
