Cadillac: 1991 Cadillac Seville, coolant temperature sensor, 1991 cadillac seville

Question
I have never had a problem with it starting until I took it to the Cadillac dealer for problems with it while driving it would act like it was shifting out of overdrive.  The installed a brain or whatever the tech. term is.  The next day I tried to start it and it was saying the engine was hot, idle engine on the dash.  It was about 30 degrees out and had been sitting overnite. There's no way it was hot.  It will start when it wants but when its real cold seems to be the worst.  I have taken it back to the dealer who advised they couldn't find anything wrong.  My husband put a temperature sensor on it but it started a couple of days then back to square one!! Help!
The car runs perfect when it starts.

Answer
Could be a fault in the ENGINE COOLANT TEMPERATURE SENSOR and or the ENGINE METAL TEMPERATURE SWITCH.

Due to the hard starting the most common would be the ENGINE COOLANT TEMPERATURE SENSOR which is a 2 wire sensor located by the distributor and is usually colored wires of black and yellow.

I can provide you with pictures and diagnostic procedures to test the sensors but you will need to contact me at: onlineautohelp@msn.com as pictures are not allowed on this website.
