Cadillac: 93 Cadillac STS, jumper pins, fuel pump relay

Question
I don't hear the pump running witht he ignition switch on.  And, there is no fuel coming from the fuel line.  The last mechanic swears he installed a new fuel pump.  I am beginning to doubt it.

-----Question-----
I have a 93 Cad STS with only 50k miles.  When I would drive for 30 min the car would stall and would not start for 6+ hours. Had it towed to a garage. The mechanic changed the fuel filter and fuel pump. Charged me $550.  The problem did not go away.  I took it back and he had it for 4 months. Could not fix the problem.  I finally had it towed home.  Trouble shooting before I send it to another mechanic.  I broke the fuel line at the filter and applied 12v direct to the fuel pump relay contact under the hood. No fuel flow.  The car will not start since I took it back to the mech.  I am looking for the gray wire in the trunk to apply 12v there to see if the fuel pump works.  Any ideas?   Dave

when you jumper pins # 3 and # 5 with a jumper wire at the relay, Provided you have the correct relay, can you hear the pump running all the time with the ignition ON ?.

The gray wire in under the vehicle near the fuel tank.

Answer
You will ONLY hear the pump run for TWO SECONDS when you turn the ignition switch to the ON position. It will NOT keep running until the engine is started and or you use the jumper method on the relay.

Use the jumper method and LISTEN to hear the fuel pump run ALL THE TIME with the ignition ON.

There is a noise dampner located between the fuel pump and the pickup tube within the fuel tank and if this reducer is faulty you will hear the pump run all the time and the fuel could be spilling right back into the gas tank.

This is why I always test the pump after I install it and before I put the gas tank back up.

If you have less than 1/4 of gas in the tank you can usually hear splashing going on in the tank if the dampner is faulty.

It is possible that you have a faulty pump also. It happens. Which is why you TEST IT before putting the tank back up.
