Cadillac: SERVICE -- STEERING SYSTEM, power steering fluid, cadillac deville

Question
I have a 1997 Cadillac Deville and occasionally my Service Steering System light comes on.  I checked my power steering fluid and it looked very dirty (like burnt oil).  Is there anything like changing the power steering fluid?  Also, I feel a slight grabbing when I'm turning sometimes.  What do you think this could be?

Answer
Burnt or dirty looking power steering fluid is a sign of either a P/S pump starting to fail or an inetrnal starting to fail fault within the steering rack.

STRONGLY suggest that you flush out the old power steering fluid and replace it with the RECOMMENDED TYPE FLUID by the manufacturer.

Be CAREFUL as transmission fluid is usually NOT the normal fluid used anymore.
