Steering Column Repair: Locked Steering column, blazer s10, chevy blazer

Question
I have a 96 chevy blazer S10 and my ignition lock won't turn. Trying to replace Lock Cylinder but can't turn the wheel 90' to get to back of steering wheel to remove the air bag. What can I do to fix this?

Answer
Hi Derron:

We have recently uploaded pages and a description of how to replace the lock cylinder on GM vehicles.  They are broken down into step by step detailed instructions. Here is a link to that page.  This covers most of the locks from 1968 to present.  It covers some of the tricks to get to the lock cylinder on your vehicle, but for the most part, just be careful of the red 4 ways switch breaking.

Lastly, I would have a new lock cylinder in hand before you begin, to see what you are working on (hidden in the column) and accomplish finishing this job quickly.

Good luck
