Dodge: 2000 RAM 1500 front spindles, spindle nut, cotter pin

Question
I think I need new hub assemblies, the spindle nut on the drivers side keeps loosening itself. Plus the wheels spin a little harder than I think they should. There is 70k miles on it. How can you tell if they need replacing?

Answer
Glenn,
The spindle nut has a cotter pin in it from the factory. The nut has grooves in it so when you tighten it down you can install the cotter pin. With this pin the nut cannot move.Whoever done the work must have not put the pin back in.When you put the nut on you should have no bearing play, and the wheel should not be hard to turn.
