through the gears when cold. when i take it on the highway up to about 50 mph the engine revs
like in neutral and once i slow down i am able to drive but the tranny does not shift it stays in a low gear.  reverse etc. are fine. trans fluid is full and has good color no burnt smell.
no codes come up either. any suggestions?

Answer
You have a couple of possibilities:

1. You can change the trans fluid and filter just to see if it makes any difference. IF your LUCKY it just might be some debris that MIGHT get flushed out when you drain the fluid. But don't count on it.

2. Problems in the forward clutch drum due to clutches slipping due to seal failure.

3. 2-4 servo sticking or seals leaking.

4. Proble in the trans oil pump such as broken vanes or torn sealing rings.

5. Problems in the 2-4 band assembly

6. Sticking 1-2 shift valve in the valve body.

7. Stuck or faulty 1-2 shift solenoid.

I have been building transmissions for s0 years and DEPENDING upon how the vehicle performs when I drive it, I could pretty well be fairly certain as to what the fault is.

It HATE making GUESSES, But I would suspect that the 1-2 solenoid and or the wiring to it is the fault.

In order to get an EXACT diagnosis the vehicle would have to be driven.

Ship the trans out here to New Mexico and I will be glad to fix it for you.
