Cadillac: 1996 Fleetwood Brougham, intake air temperature sensor, intake air temperature

Question
Thank your valuable time and answer.

The Interior Lights timer was checked (not professionally). I did try a
diagnostic test from a web
site where you press the warm and bottom right buttons on the
temperature controls and get the
diagnostic codes for CCM 01. When I did this there was a bunch of
codes 20, 21, 22, 23, 25, 26,
.... 46 - although not all of them, I am not sure how to read it. I wonder
if it means all of those
pieces are coming up bad or if they are good and the others are bad.
Of course, I understand this
is not a very explicit description.

I did take it in to the dealer, yet after a few hours, they did not find
what was wrong with it. They
said they suspect a wire that is not grounded or the CCM is bad. I
asked if they had a diagnostic
tool to test the CCM and unfortunately, the guy said to me that they
didn't have a giant machine
that plugs into the car.

Am I safe to say finding a wire that isn't grounded may be impossible?

The dealership had the seat out and were looking for the wire. My
husband is pretty good with
the mechanics, yet this one is alluding him.

Kind regards,
Marianne Galea

Question -
Good evening.

My 1996 Fleetwood Brougham's interior lights stay on when car is
running. Door lights and top
map lights. Will shut off when parked longer than ten minutes.

Appreciate any advice you can give me.

Kind regards,
Pete Galea

Without doing any test procedures, The most likely suspect would be
the interior lights TIMER.

Answer
The diagnostic codes that you got have NOTHING in common with your interior lights problem.

the codes you got:

20, 21, 22, Are TPS (Throttle Positioning Sensor) fault codes.

23, 25, Are IAC (Intake Air Temperature) sensor fault codes.

26, Is EVAP (Evaporative Emissions Canister Purge) Solenoid fault code.

46 is PASS KEY circuit problem.

I would CLEAR all of these codes and restsrt the vehicle and see if the CHECK ENGINE light comes back ON and then enter diagnostics to see what codes re-appear.

These codes could be simply FALSE codes, Of which is why you should CLEAR them from the computers memory to see if they return bEFORE you do anything.

On to your interior lights problem,

NO, There is no way to TEST the CCM on the dealership level, The component is manually tested to determine if the unit is receiving and transmitting th proper signals and if NOT, the unit is replaced and sent back to the manufacturer who does have the diagnostic equipment to test the unit.

The biggest problem I find these days and is getting worse is that the techs at the dealerships are in way over their heads and don't want to learn how things work and or take the time to perform a proper and complete diagnosis. It is much easier to just REPLACE PARTS and HOPE that their GUESS is right.

I could e-mail you an electrical schematic of the complex interior light circuit but unless you know how and what to test it won't do you much good.

Your problem could be an OPEN and or a CLOSED circuit within any of the interior lights circuitry.

Replacing the CCM would ONLY be a GUESS.
