Chevrolet: tapping noise, wt oil, chevy venture

Ihave a 2002 chevy venture,40,000miles.When i start up in the morning ,the engine is making a loud tapping noise.it subsides once car warms up.what could it be?

Hi- well it is most likely the rocker arms tapping on you, I would have them checked and adjusted/torqued to specs. than I would have the oil and filter changed  with some 10-40 wt. oil and than add a can of STP. this should help a lot. and when the rocker covers are off I would have the rockers and springs,,and push rods checked too. if you put in a can of STP in the oil , now - it should help a lot until you get to a shop to do the other items. ok.
