Chevrolet: transmission, chevy caprice, catalytic converters

We have a 1996 Chevy Caprice. We had the transmission rebuilt on 9/1/04.  It failed after 3 weeks and was again rebuilt on 9/22/04 (would not go into gear at all). It failed again on 12/22/04 (would not change gears while driving on highway unless let off gas).  The third time I was told the catalytic converters were bad or going bad and this caused the failure.  My question is can bad or failing catalytic converters cause the transmission to fail?

Hi Zbbra, the only thing that failed in this case is the mechanic. I have worked on cars for over 20 years and i have not seen or heard of a case where the catillatic converter caused a transmissiom to fail. I hope this helps you in you need more info just let me know. Regards, Keith.
