Question -
I have a 1998 Ram V8 that acts as if it is not getting fuel some mornings.  My first thought was a frozen fuel line since it first happened in winter so I put a heater under the engine block for a couple of hours and it started fine.  The next time it was somewhat milder outside but quite windy so I blocked in the engine with cardboard, put the heater underneath and a couple of hours later it started fine. Today it is above frezing (45 degrees or 4 celcius) and it is pulling the same crap.  I drive this truck every day and this only happened about 3 times but seems to be getting closer together.  Today I tried an ether shot but it didn't cacth, I took the breather off and poured a little raw gas through the intake and nothing, pulled a plug wire off to check for spark and still nothing so I have a heater under it right now to see if it will help again.  Any help at all would be appreciated!
Thanks

Are you not getting a spark at all?If not it isn't a fuel issue. If the truck starts it's firing.Have you checked for water in the fuel?

I usually have methyl hydrate in with my fuel and I generally use Sunoco fuel because of the ethynol content and I diffinately am getting spark. I pulled a plug out, laid it against the plug wire heat shield and it sparked as it should...I would think that this would hold true for all plugs but I didn't pull them all.
I'm confused as hell.
Help!

Yes if one is firing they all will be firing.I think it will be the fuel pump.I would have the fuel pressure checked also.
Question-
I will do that but should it have not caught even a little when I poured gas directly in to the intake or with the ether?
Answer -
You know i just caught the part about pouring the fuel in the throttle body!Yes it should have at least made a spark. Before you change the pump let me let another friend look at this.I'll get back to you shortly.
Question -
I have just changed the water pump on my truck but when I fill it with coolant it just runs out of the engine out the top, somewhere behind the water pump. I have a Haynes service manual but it is litlle help.  There is a hose that connects on an angle at the top of the pump that I suspuct is the culperit.  I have removed the a/c compressor so far and there is a bracket that it and the alternator mounts to. I am assuming that I will have to take the alternator and this bracket off before I can get to this hose...am I on the right track?  Also, is there any online manuals that you are aware of that could be of any use...either now or in the future?  Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks

Answer
Al,
You will have to remove the alternator and maybe the bracket.I think you can do it without removing the bracket though. It just depends on you,it would probably be easier if you did remove the bracket. They can be a buger to work on.Also check the thermostat housing really good because they will corrode on the inside and start to leak, the anti freeze causes this after some time.Since you're checking you may want to go ahead and change the thermostat while you're that far into it.As far as the manuals,i have a Haynes manual and it covers most of what i do to mine.I don't know of many others.Sorry.RamMan
