Ford: 2005 Crown Victoria LX climate control system, climate control system, r 134a

Question
QUESTION: My Son's Crown Victoria has 140K and has served him well.  The dilemma is now in the climate control:
The air flows only out of the defroster vents and there is no air conditioning at all.
Here is some other information:

The Fan works;

The Control panel changes displays properly when switching between modes.  If you press air the displays reads air, press heat it displays heat etc:

The indicator for the air shows a full charge:

The air compressor is cycling in and out every 5 seconds;

We have checked the vacuum lines located in the lower front panel in the right side of the passenger compartment and there is good suction;

There does not seem to be any blown fuses.

Do you have any suggestions?  My son and 2 year old grand son are roasting!
You guys and this website are great!  Please keep up the good work.
Thanks

ANSWER: couple of things to check; first see if the A/C is fully charged, either with a gauge, if not pick up a can of R-134a, and re charge the system. second thing, see if the blend door is opening properly, with the key on, depress the a/c /recirculation switch and listen for the blend doors, they should be herd as muffled clunks up under the dash.

QUESTION: You are correct.  When he followed your instructions and held the switch the blend door did not make a sound and he said he is familiar with the sound to which you had referred.

Is this an electronic issue or a vacuum issue?  Is this something we can repair or is it a big job?

Thanks for your follow-up, your insight has really helped us hone in on the issue.

Answer
i would guess that since you had good vacuum pressure at the passenger side lines it is most likely a electrical problem. check the fuses under the hood and under the dash. if all is good check the blend door itself. also the control module itself may not be working correctly, but since it is displaying changes when you hit the switch, it most likely is OK
