Ford: ford focus LX (2005), windshield wipers, windscreen wipers

Question
Hiya Dusty,
The windscreen wipers on my car, work randomly by themselves when i take the key out of the ignition.  It has happened approximately 12 times over the period of owning it.  I have took it back to the dealers and they keep saying they've fixed the problem but its always a new part they replace but the same problem happens.  I've got to take a 10mm spanner everywhere with me to loosen the battery so my windscreen doesn't get scratched to hell.  I've had to take video evidence in because usually when i pull up onto the forecourt the car behaves itself, they look at me as if im mad until they see the car doing its thing by itself.  Could you help me please?
Thank you
Tracey

Answer
Hello Tracy, there are 3 components in the electrical system that may be affecting your windshield wipers, the switch for the windshield wipers, the delay control module and the wiper motor itself. Now assuming there is no aftermarket accessories hooked up in the car such as radio amplifiers, fog lights, ect, to the wiper circuit, the switch should not be receiving power with the key off. Next inline is the wiper delay module, located up under the dash or behind the glove compartment door. if one of the relays went bad and is locked into circuit closed (On) it can back feed into the motor and switch the wipers on. last is the motor it self, which should only receive power from the wiper delay module, if not it will activate the wipers.
Hopefully this may help you Tracy.
