Ford: 1998 Ford Contour Trans Problem, ford contour, manual lever

Question
Hi Robert! I have a 1998 Ford Contour SE with a 2.0 liter 4 Cylinder engine. Shortly after I got the car, I noticed that the Trans would start to do funny things. If the car is taken out on the highway or for a long drive braking and accelerating, when I would come to a stop the trans would jerk forward with a little bit of a shudder, and upon accelerating it would jerk really bad again depending on how fast you press the accelerator. Sometimes after it happened a couple times it would go away but not entirely. I took it to a transmission shop and they plugged in there mini computer under the dash and it said that there was some kind of shifting mechanism problem. It was shifted through all gears P R N D 2 1 the car shutters a lot when this is done, even just simply shifting into reverse just to back out from a parking space then back into drive. During that time the Trans went into limp mode and the O/D light started blinking. Which from what I know means Trans problems, some work that has been done was Transmission fluid flushed and refilled. The problem was happening even before the flush and refill. The guy told me that it could be a Manual Lever Position Sensor or something like that, he showed me where it was located, and it was on the front side of the engine. I believe that about covers all of it Thanks!

Answer
the mlp sensor will cause this problem but if you have a scanner you could reed the voltage and that will tell you if it is bad i would do that first before i start replacing parts . because you also have solenoid packs in the transmission that will cause the same problem
