Ford: Truck wont start, ford ranger supercab, schrader valve

Question
Hi, I have a 2003 Ford Ranger Supercab 4.0 manual, rear wheel drive. I went out on Sunday night and couldn't get far as it stalled on me. It will turn over but it will not run. The lights on the dash board come on, and there is sound to indicate it wants to, but it won't.

Before taking it in to a mechanic, I would like to get some sort of an idea as to what could possibly be the problem.  There is no warranty on the vehicle, although I bought it used from a dealership only 6 months ago.

Any ideas or help of any kind would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you for your time.

Answer
Hi... LEt me ask you... did the check engine light come on? there are some quick tests to do... first is to check for fuel pressure... this can be done by locating the fuel pressure port... (Looks like a valve stem on a tire...) on the fuel rail on the engine.... what you are going to do is roll the key to the on position and back off... do this 3 times... then press the schrader valve on the fuel pressure port... (Like letting air out of a tire....) be careful as fuel can spray out of here under great pressure...(Appx 40 psi) also... when you roll the key on listen for the fuel pump... it will mqake a whirring sound for about 3 to 5 seconds than shut off... try those and let me know what happens... thanks...
