Ford: 47 Ford jailbar with a ford 302, wiring loom, spark plug wire

Question
I have a 47 ford and have purchased an EZY Wire wiring loom for it. I have installed the loom and all is working fine however, I have a distributor with electronic points. I have two wires comming out of the distributor barring the plug and coils leads. I conected the red one to the coil + and the black to coil -. The wiring loom had one wire named coi positive and the other Tacho. I wired the the coil + to the coil + and the tach to the coil -. Now I went away for the week end and the coil had exploded when I had returned. The truck was  running before I left in the workshop(Not yet on the road) but suddenly stopped. This is when I left it and closed shop. I don't know if it happened during the week end or whilst it was Idling. I also noticed that the coil was running rather hot. I am no rocket scientist (really dumb) and wondered if you could guide me in the right direction. I don't know if it is the Alt, I dunno where the balast resistor should go ??? Please help.

Answer
the balast resistor goes in the (+) lead going to the coil... if not installed this could be the reason for the coil meltdown... also try removing the "Tacho" wire from the coil.. go to a local parts store and get a spark checker... it will look like a spark plug with an aligator clip on it. hook it up to a spark plug wire and try starting the engine. check for spark. also try installing a known good coil. try threse and let me know what happens... Good luck!
