Ford: Ford Ranger XLT 4x4 light flashes 6 times, ford ranger xlt, karen gilson

My 1997 Ford Ranger XLT 4x4 has an indicator light that is flashing intermittently in groups of 6 flashes while driving in 2 wheel drive. What does this mean? The truck only has 31,000 miles on the odometer.

have you have any trans  work  done to this vehicle ? did you go 4 wheeling and this happen?if not then go and look behind the transfur case on the 4wd to see if the conector came loose unplug it and then ck the conector to see if there is and foreign materialin it .put it back and unhook the battery for 10 min.and see if it comes on if it does let me know we will do a pinpoint test
