Ford: 1996 Ford Taurus station wagon, exhaust gas recirculation, ford taurus

Question
Got a code 401 "Exhaust Gas Recirculation Flow Insufficient Detected....what does that mean and what kind of repair is necessary?

Also, if you are slowing down... but not coming to a complete stop and then accelerate once again the car seems to slip and slightly "lurch" before continuing.  My husband thinks it could be an engine mount....I think it's transmission...your opinion?  If you come to a complete stop before proceeding, the car shifts fine.  It only does that if you don't stop completely (like when slowing to turn a corner then reaccelerating).

We are debating repairs.....trying to get a couple more years out of it.  Just turned 100,000, no leaks, fluids changed regularly, no other problems.

Appreciate your response!

Thanks, Cindee

Answer
Cindee what you need to do is have him remove the throttle body and you will find that the egr passage is clog with carbon scrap it out and replace the gasket.this will take care of tour problem.  as far as your trans when was the last time you did a trans flush or a filter change it should be done every 30,000 miles
