GM-GMC: 1998 Chevy s10, lower ball joints, chevy s10

Question
I'm interested in buying a Chevy s10 truck.  I found a nice looking one with 6 cylinder, 4x4, automatic, and decent low miles and I would like to know what kind of problems typically plague s10's.  I've heard that they are great vehicles, I've also heard that they are notorious for their transmission problems in certain models.  Everyone says that certain models but never which ones.  I figured I'd ask an expert.  Anything you could offer would be of great help.  Thanks.

Answer
Some of the most common concerns with those vehicles would be, lower intake gaskets, oil cooler hoses, upper and lower ball joints, idler arms...most of those are reasonably easily repaired.  If I were in your position I would change every fluid (front diff, rear diff, coolant, engine oil, p/s fluid, brake fluid, transfer case and transmission fluid).  Relatively easy to do, not terribly expensive and is a good way to get an overall idea of what kind of shape the major systems are in.
Hope this helps
