GM-GMC: 6.5 trouble, tank fuel, arby s

Question
i have just bought a 1995 chevy 3500HD it has the 6.5 turbo.  i drove it around 25 miles went in to arbys had a sandwich came back out and it would not start. i let it set for abought a hour and it started. it has done this to me twice. then i was coming home and it just died going down the road. i towed it home and the next morning it started fine. do u think it could be the stanadyne box? i was told that was likely to be my culprit. thanks Tony

Answer
The Stan box is a possible . Although i like process of elimination first .

When it died just driving home . then you let it sit and it starts ;

Did you try to jump start the truck , at Arby's?

If you did not and you just got it towed . It is possible that the battery charged up just enough by sitting to allow it to start the truck again ,then on the way home the battery voltage dropped below 9.5 volts and then your truck stoppped running . Then it sat and re-started again ...

I would do the following :

Do an Amp Draw test on the batt: Take it to AutoZone , Sears etc . They do this for free !

If bad replace !

Do a fuel pressure check ; maybe you could have a bad fuel pump issues or could be debris iin the fuel tank fuel line. I seen this years ago . When a piece of debris fell to bottom of tank then started and then pressure forced it to block the fuel filter . then turned off truck and debris fell again. truck started again .

What else ,Electronic do you have hooked up . Do you have a welder etc anything , bucket ?

Let me know !
